the 2 songs are remixed by south london-based artist klein (hyperdub), and tokyo-based experimental hiphop musician killer bong (black smoker records) mastered by bunsho nishikawa, who is known for his works with goat and tenniscoats, among others.

matthew herbert and goldsmiths universitys in-house record label nx records presents the latest in their series of experimental electronic vinyl 12-s. nx14x showcases the work of two boundary pushing goldsmiths students: first, uk born and south africa raised composer galina juritz, whose chopped and spliced rnb doused in lush string arrangements enduces a fidgety unease and zero gravity lushness in equal measure. and second, rising dj and producer harry rodger, with two cuts of organic, summery techno that would sound perfectly at home pumping out of the nts radio speakers into a sun-baked gillett square.

marvin jupiter is an 18 year old artist who mainly makes hip-hop music, using bass lines as rhythms more associated with funk. he uses and creates the sound of the modern day interpretation of trap adding his own personal twist. reach is a rendition of the typical house genre including rhythms sampled from south american cultures, using current sounds from the trap genre even having a small section of a trap/hip-hop beat towards the end of the song. on the b-side you can hear the boogie & funk through a dego & lord remix

combo lulo returns to names you can trust for their sophomore single, digging deeper into the diversified sounds of the caribbean that helped define their debut. while the first single took a jamaican foundation south into the neighboring continent, fusing the sensibilities of rock steady with those of classic afro-latin orchestras, this single goes far east. inspired by the heady and sublime sounds of foundational ska mixed with east african influences, (think buster s islam, don d s addis ababa or further east), the sieve & the sand is a brand new composition within this natural order, albeit with the fortune of different reggae eras and studio styles to draw from. divided into two parts (but also available seamlessly as it was played in the studio), combo lulo s talented players move effortlessly from the galloping shuffle of ska into a deep and dark, roots radics-styled instrumental. its a lovely ode to the original styles of reggae, but also another impressive accomplishment that will surely leave listeners and new fans in anticipation of the shape of things to come for combo lulo.

the 80s italo disco /proto-house classic �mbo theme� by the mighty klein & mbo, repressed! comes with an heavy (and unheard) south african version on the flip. huge tip! the mbo theme (1983) has been a dance floor favorite since decades, created by mario boncaldo and tony carrasco - the legendary italian/us duo klein & mbo. the track got support in nyc and chicago by greats as larry levan, frankie knuckles and ron hardy.
the rare version on the flip is created by a south-african band called warrior. rush hour explain how they came across the track: �we bumped into this version on a south african record digging trip. it took us a few months to realize the scarcity of this version. ian osrin, a well respected engineer in south-africa who was involved in many 80ties and 90ties bubblegum, kwaito and south african disco records, explained us about music distribution in south africa during apartheid.

the hoodna orchestra is a 12 member orchestra who studies and investigates the african origins of western popular music. the orchestra was formed in 2012, in the south side of tel aviv, by a group of musicians, and it functions as a collective and a record label. hoodna s musical director is the guitarist and composer ilan smilan. the cultural and musical environment that surrounds the group has a great effect on its creative process. exposure to ethiopian , eritrean and arabic musical traditions, coupled with an ongoing study and exploration of different jazz styles, creates a unique blend which has made the hoodna orchestra one of the most appreciated and sought-after live shows in israel.
